"Yeah!" Lenny enthuses brightly. He shoves the dirty napkins into his back pocket with his lucky handkerchief, where it's unlikely to be noticed as he stands up straighter. "Hey...do you guys have a succotash tree or is it out back because it's shedding?"
Mr. Slotnick looks at them suspiciously but then seems to decide that they're too old to be juvenile delinquents. He chuckles and says, "Let me know when you're ready."
Laverne nods and waits until he's out of hearing to quietly tell Lenny, "We probably should wrap it up soon."
He's just ask her why she and Shirley need airplane stickers.
"Yep, me and Squig don't need anything else - though I think we could get some canned Squid..." He grabs a couple and adds them to the pile. "Okay, we're good to go."
The process of separating everything out will not be fun.
They head to the checkout stand. Luckily, there's not much of a line. She hopes they've cleaned up the mess enough, but an alarm goes off when it's their turn.
Lenny, being Lenny and remembering the sound of alarms going off in juvy, immediately pressed himself against the nearest wall with his arms and legs spread.
Laverne puts up her hands and hates that she notices Lenny's hiney again, as Mr. Slotnick cries, "You're the one!" Then a bunch of men rush over, one of them a cop!
Lenny is almost too afraid to notice anything but the wall . If he were smart and cool like Squiggy, he would claim that he ain't afraid of the police, but it's Lenny. He's very afraid.
"I SWEAR I DIDN'T KNOW THERE AIN'T NO SUCCOTOSH TREES!" He shouts, because what else could this be about?
Laverne automatically hugs back, but she feels overwhelmed by all this. She doesn't know what they've won or which of them is actually the winner. But they should probably split the prize, whoever and whatever it is. She can't talk while Lenny is lifting her off the ground, so she'll wait until he sets her down and she can catch her breath.
"Well, do I have to do my shopping spree on my own, or could I invite a few friends?" She knows Shirley would never forgive her if she chose Lenny over Shirl, and probably Squiggy would expect to share in anything Lenny did.
Laverne is surprised that Lenny doesn't want to participate. She could use his long arms, and he seems to love doing stuff with her. But she tells Mr. Slotnick, "Uh, well, my best friend, Shirley Feeney at least."
Well, he's trying to be nice and not go where he's not invited. Yet.
Mr. Slotnick shakes his head. "She doesn't seem to be here - I'm afraid it's highly irregular to add someone who wasn't here to the contest. Aside from your young man, I wouldn't allow a second party."
Lenny shoots a wide-eyed look at Laverne. She's always so hot and cold about spending time with him, what is and is not a date, etc.
And now while their groceries are getting bagged up he'll use this as an excuse to get in more jumping up and down, because it's fun watching Laverne jump up and down and jumping up and down with her.
Laverne feels giddy, from the win and the jumping. They'll still need to pay for today's groceries of course. When she tells Shirley her news, Shirl will definitely want to make a list for the spree.
Lenny already knows that Squiggy's gonna want a lot of stuff, but he's prepared to do that hauling! In the meantime, he's just gonna enjoy himself some Laverne.

Lenny de-assumes the position and grabs Laverne by the shoulders and crushes her in a hug while jumping up and down.

Squiggy knows he has to split half of whatever he won with Squiggy. Then again, Mr. Slotnik might not LET him do this.

He really doesn't mind losing out on a spree like this, if only because he knows he can manipulate Laverne into getting him what he wants.
